Assist the Ultimate Quest!

SETI@Home is the posterchild for getting peeps involved in scientific research, at least while your screen saver is active. The project started back in 1999 to help explore the huge amount of data (requires teraflop/s of processing power)….the solution posed was a distributed computing concept. After a few attempts, SETI decided upon a background processing client that could be installed on a home computer.

Fast forward to the present, SETI@Home boasts 4 million participants with ~200K active users. All thrilled to be the first to find ET (or they just want to beat the compadres across the world).

So if you’re interested in finding ET (but more likely just watching a pretty screen saver), download the software from SETI@Home and install away.

I installed mine just a couple of month's back. Its really fun to watch those computations taking place on your screen. It kind of makes you feel godd - being a part of something magnificent.

Here's how :

  • Go to SETI@home
  • Click Download and install the version of Boinc Software for you OS.
  • Then just follow the instuctions

Help find ET, assist the ultimate quest.

Wet Dreams.... Not just dreams after all....

Chennai gets its "Wet Dreams" realized. The much awaited rains since last year's downpour arrived with warm welcome from the Chennaites. Three days of non-stop rains made the city much more enticing. I managed a couple of snaps just before the showers.

The Indian Ocean before the showers. The froth like substance [enlarge] started oozing out from the ocean at about mid-day, on Sunday.

Before all else....

Welcome to my first post. I have been trying to create and maintain a decent blog for many times now, but something or the other gets in my way. I seriously lost count of the number of blogs I have created. This could very well be my 13th or 14th one.Anyway I intend to blog mostly about what’s going on round me, with occasional other stuff thrown in. Now when you do find these "other stuff" - these would be times which were preceded by me sitting hours at a time staring at the keyboard, at a loss of what to post.

Just one more thing. Blogging is a two-way process. There's no point in blogging if there aren't anyone to read it. And the only proof that a blog is read is feedback it.... - Well, I could get really boring when addressing readers ... You get the point. Comments are crucial. It keeps me going. Bye for now.
